Early Learner Classrooms

The Early Learners classroom is for students ages 2-5. This classroom focuses on language acquisition, pre academic skills, following a school routine, complying with classroom demands, social interaction, imitation, sensory regulation, self-help skills and behavior modification. Children in the early intervention class learn to work in small groups and follow simple instructions.

Level 1 Classroom

The Level 1 classroom is for students ages 5-12. This classroom focuses on intervention in academics, language, sensory, fine and gross motor and social/play skills. Each child receives at least one half hour daily of 1:1 intervention in each skill area. Emphasis is on increasing social skills, language and working independently.

Level 2 Classroom

The Level 2 Classroom is typically comprised of students ages eight and older. This classroom is comprised of up to six students with a lead teacher and a teachers aide. Level 2 continues to focus on development of appropriate and functional language skills. Individual attention is given to each student with the goal of helping them meet their academic potential, while developing appropriate social behaviors. They work on handwriting skills, reading skills and math concepts. Functional living skills and self help skills are an essential part of this classroom. This classroom uses many community outings and outreach to generalize skills learned in the classroom. Each student works at his/her level to build skills that support their independence and quality of life.

Level 3 Classroom

The Level 3 Classroom is typically comprised of students eight and older. This classroom has six students and a lead teacher and a teachers aide. This classroom is a non-graded program designed to teach appropriate functional, academic, life and social skills. Because of the unique needs of the students' in this classroom, additional emphasis is placed on the teaching and application of functional communication and behavior modification. Each students' program is individualized to help them meet their greatest potential and independence.

We are committed to the following aims:

1. Providing a safe and nurturing environment with values for our students to learn meaningful social interactions
2. Providing a multisensory curriculum in order to teach children with Autism most effectively
3. Small teacher to student rations
4. Individualized education plans for each student
5. Providing community education and public awareness about Autism and related disorders
6. Maintain affordability so that new students, teachers and aides can be attracted and retained

An initial screening is then conducted to determine each child's eligibility for admission including:

1. Review of formal diagnosis from a developmental pediatrician or diagnostician
2. Informal evaluation of the child through observation at home and school setting
3. Parent interview
4. Review detailed application information
5. Review of relevant developmental history. Every child who is admitted must have a completed medical examination including detailed pediatric evaluations as well as hearing assessments and other related tests.
